A Ray of Sunshine

Leave it to a cat to find the warmest spot from which to watch the action!

Whenever we’ve had a bit of sun lately, Frankie’s sought it out in the Harrison House’s original kitchen!

While a more modern kitchen has been added to the Harrison House, the old kitchen remains an important room. Just look at those old floorboards! The room still sports a brick fireplace and beehive oven, too. I’ll add an example of how those work below, because I doubt Frankie will be exploring that far in the future . . . sometimes it’s a blessing that he only has three legs: he can only get into so much trouble. (And if we were using the fireplace for cooking—which we hope to do in future programs—you can bet he’ll be kept safely away!)

Fireplace & Beehive Oven in Use

This lovely example of a fireplace and beehive oven comes from Jim Buckley at rumford.com—check out the article there for more information on beehive ovens.

Stay tuned next week for more Museum Cat adventures!
