Wishing You a Fragrant New Year
Here at the Harrison House, we’re still enjoying our holiday pomanders:
What's with oranges and cloves around the holidays?
Sticking cloves into oranges (yes, those little brown things are unground cloves!) in decorative patterns makes a "pomander," which is the historic answer to room sprays and scent plug-ins. While there is a lot of lore around them, the simple fact is that they smell pleasant as they dry out--which is especially nice in the winter, when we're all spending more time inside.
You can read more and see a video on how to make them here.
Harrison House Curator Cat Frankie is not sure he's sold on the idea . . . But nonetheless, we all hope your New Year is fresh and pleasing!
