Volunteer Options

One of our goals here at the Harrison House for 2025 is building up our volunteer program. Curator Cat Frankie is hard at work thinking about this:

So many options to consider!

The truth is, historical societies thrive on volunteer contributions. Because they usually have very few staff members—we have just two!—and lots of projects on the backburner, there is always something to do! Some of the ideas we’ve come up with for different ways to volunteer with the Roseland Historical Society include:

  • Programs: running hands-on activities or demonstrating a historical skill for visitors

  • Tours: learning all about the Harrisons and the house, and then sharing that information with visitors

  • Archives: cataloguing and organizing our collection of artifacts, as well as scanning pictures and other documents

  • Garden: helping maintain the formal garden at the side of the house, or even pitching in on occasional workdays

  • Maintenance: cleaning or repairing things around the house, depending on expertise

  • Projects: specific improvement projects that meet a goal for the volunteer (Eagle Scout projects, capstone projects, etc)

Can you think of other ways to volunteer? Let us know! We’re happy to hear new ideas. (You can always email us: info at roselandhistoricalsociety dot org!)
