Artifact Trivia, Round Two

Curator Cat Frankie is back with another artifact from the Harrison House!

A black and white cat looks at a brass object.

What’s that shiny round object Frankie is looking at?

Even though they’re very out of date today, it may still look familiar! That’s a bed warming pan. There’s around chamber on one end and a long handle on the other. It’s leaning next to the fireplace because, on cold nights, it would be filled with warm coals and placed between the sheets in a bed to warm it up! There are lots of kinds of things that do this: hot water bottles, electric blankets, cats. ;) Even today, when many houses have robust heating systems, we hate to get into a chilly bed!

And on that note, take a moment to appreciate the small things today—Veteran’s Day. Our lives may look very different from our ancestors’, but we are linked to them all the same!
