Out in the Garden
Our Curator Cat, Frankie, is enjoying the weather lately:
Note the stylish harness!
Frankie’s in the Harrison House’s formal garden in the picture above, but we’ve also tried our hand at growing vegetables this year. If you’re starting to think about next year’s garden already, here are some great resources for finding native (aka historical-in-your-area!) plants in NJ:
The Native Plant Society of New Jersey
“New Jersey Native Plants List” from My Home Park
“Botany Stories” from NJ Department of Environmental Protection
In addition to often being historic, native plants tend to be very hardy, and some are uncommon enough these days that they’re very satisfying to “rediscover.” Here’s to even more vibrant gardens next year!
